Why Don’t You Fly?

A bird soars through the sky,
blue, orange, majestic in flight,
free of cage,
golden light,
yet only in my mind
for it’s still waiting to fly,
hoping to fly,
yearning to fly,
but it can never fly,
High, high up into the sky,
into paradise.

Another thoughtful poem from Alison. What begins as a majestic bird soaring freely through the sky gradually reveals itself as a dream of freedom rather than freedom itself. Through simple repetition and imagery, Alison captures something deeply human: the hope of becoming more than what we currently are.
