My Painful Hiking Trip

Updated: Jun 17

One day, I went hiking on the highest mountain in Taipei, called Qixing Mountain, with my dad. The road that I hiked was very long, rugged, and full of sharp-edged rocks. The path itself was so winding that I couldn’t see the path beyond each sharp turn. Suddenly, I tripped over a rock, and I hurt my legs. As I fell, there were many small stones on my knees, and these small stones had very sharp edges that cut deeply into my skin. It was very painful. Dad slowly removed each rock from my flesh, and blood oozed down my leg.

As I went downhill, I felt very painful in my knees; each step I took felt like climbing over barbed wire. I had to walk very slowly, limping, dragging my legs, and using my hands to hold onto my dad’s arm. This way, the pain wouldn’t overwhelm me. And finally, after many hours, I reached the bottom of the mountain and arrived in my dad's car. By then, my knees were so swollen that they looked like giant steamed buns. My cheeks were covered with tears mixed with sweat. I twisted my feet so badly that there were very big bruises on each ankle. I cried for a long time until I drifted to sleep.
